St Helens and Whiston achieve first DCAP accreditation!
Congratulations to St Helens and Whiston, the first inpatient diabetes service in the UK to achieve Level 1 accreditation with the Diabetes Care Accreditation Programme (DCAP)!
The team at St Helens and Whiston has worked hard to meet the DCAP standards, and their success marks a major milestone for inpatient diabetes care. Achieving Level 1 accreditation is a significant achievement that recognises the team’s commitment to improving the quality and safety of care for people with diabetes.
"Working towards DCAP accreditation has brought our team together and given us a platform to help support improving the standards and quality of care that we deliver for our diabetes inpatients.
“We found the DCAP team supportive and approachable with helpful feedback when needed. We look forward to working with them towards Level 2 accreditation and further quality improvement within our service," said the team at St Helens and Whiston.
Currently 14 services are signed up to the programme and are working towards their Level 1 assessments. In addition, refresher training has been provided for the pool of DCAP assessors to ensure consistent and constructive feedback throughout the process.

Peer review sessions have also been launched, offering tailored support and action plans to help services meet DCAP standards. Two Level 1 assessments took place in March, with two more scheduled for April. The target is for all registered services to complete their Level 1 assessment by the end of 2025.
The DCAP team will be attending the JBDS-IP Conference 2025 in June where they will host a dedicated DCAP workshop. To register your interest, please email eva.lynch@rcp.ac.uk.
